Our After-School Club runs until 6pm every school day and is for children aged 3 to 11. Some children from the Montessori School stay on and pupils from local primary schools, Balfour and Downs Infant and Junior Schools , are collected by our playworkers and brought to the Montessori school building on Stanford Avenue.
We show the children how to make themselves comfortable, have a light tea and choose what they would like to do. Activities take place indoors, outdoors and at Blakers Park next door. Children do drawing, games, reading, physical activities, cooking, puzzles and in the case of the older children, their own projects. We always try to encourage children's personal interests.
Our club staff have a variety of playwork, childcare and teaching qualifications; all are police checked and most are first aid trained. We provide a very high standard of care which is well-regarded by families who attend; most newcomers are from personal recommendation.
Fees from January 2008: £8.50 per session, £7.50 for any sibling attending the same session as an older child.
Holidays
Our Holiday Club runs during every school break and can be booked for mornings only (9am - 1pm), morning and afternoon (9am - 3pm) or all day (9am - 5pm), although other times can be arranged in advance.
Activities include indoor and outdoor games, nature study, arts and crafts etc. As with our After School Club we will respond to any particular interests of individual children wherever possible.
All children need to bring a packed lunch as this is eaten before 1 o'clock .
Inclusion of children with different needs is always our aim and over the Summer 2008 we, and two families, have benefited from “inclusion funding”, through Brighton & Hove Council, which has enabled us to employ special assistants to give that essential extra attention when needed.
Fees from January 2008:
9-1pm £14; 9-3pm £21; 9-5pm £28. Other times by arrangement. Our Holiday Club was inspected in Spring 2006, you can read the report here.
"My sons have come home every day happy, tired (usually) always excited about something or other that they did that day. They have really enjoyed themselves." Parent
“My daughter didn't stop talking about the great things they'd done. It really felt like a special holiday treat for them - which makes us as parents feel so much less guilty.”
